The Process

Before, During, and After your Session

Many clients wonder what they should expect during their photo session. I create a fun, personal experience for you and your family so that when you receive your finished photographs, you’ll cherish not only the images themselves, but also the memory of creating them. If you are relaxed and happy during your session, that will shine through in your photographs as I capture the moments that show why you are unique.

1. Consultation

First, I will get to know you and your family. I will learn about your personalities, your passions and your goals for the photo session. I’ll listen to your ideas and share some of my own. I’ll go through the process so you will know what to expect and will feel relaxed and comfortable on the day of the session. I’ll answer any questions you might have and offer tips for how you can make things go as smoothly as possible during the photo session.

2. Booking

After the consultation, I will work with your schedule to determine the perfect day and time for your photo session. After you pay a nonrefundable deposit, I will reserve the date for your session.

3. Taking Photos

On the day of the photo session, I will meet at the location you have chosen, and the creative fun will begin. You’ll want to relax and get comfortable in front of the camera as I bring out and capture your personality. On picture day, it’s important for you and your family to be yourselves so your photographs can communicate who you really are. A fun and relaxing photo session results in great portraits you can treasure.

4. Ordering

After the photographs have been taken and each image has been professionally retouched, you will experience the moment you have been eagerly awaiting. We will meet at my studio for your image review! I offer professional advice as you choose from among the prints, albums and other products available. I will do my part to make placing your order a fun and easy experience, and the end result will be heirlooms that you will cherish forever.

WHAT TO EXPECT THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION

If this is your first professional photo session, you might have a lot of questions about what to expect on the day of the session. The session will be tailored to you, to make your experience fun and stress-free. At your initial consultation, I will discuss details such as scheduling, location, your family’s schedule, and your children’s temperaments and personalities, answering all of your questions so you’ll go into the experience relaxed and prepared. The goal isn’t just to produce great photos – it’s also to offer you an experience that you’ll treasure.

SCHEDULING

Careful scheduling can be a key to success, especially when working with families with small children. I will schedule your session to work seamlessly with your family’s routine. Taking into consideration things like mealtimes, naptimes, and your children’s moods during particular times of day can help to avoid problems and capture your children when they are happy, rested and at their best.

WEATHER

Outdoor photo sessions can be very rewarding, but they also depend on good weather. Excessive heat or cold can be hazardous to subject and photographer alike, and rain can drive everyone indoors. If bad weather threatens a scheduled photo session, I will keep in contact with you as the day of the session approaches so we can decide whether to reschedule to another convenient time.

PATIENCE

Children tend to go at their own pace – and that’s fine. On the day of your session, I will work with you and your family to make sure everyone has an enjoyable, relaxed experience. If that means your preschooler needs to take a break for a snack, or your baby needs a new diaper and a change of clothes, you should feel comfortable to take the time you need. I know that a great photo session takes flexibility and patience.

STAYING POSITIVE

When children are in front of the camera, an unfamiliar photographer, a new location, or being the center of attention might make them feel uncomfortable, making it more difficult to get that perfect shot. Unfortunately, children don’t always take direction as easily as we might hope. I use only positive reinforcement and encouragement with the children I photograph, to make the experience pleasant and stress-free for them. I encourage parents to stay positive with their kids during the session, even when things might get frustrating. If the children aren’t happy, it will show in the photographs.
